A Prayer Guide for Lent 2010

During this 40-day season, please join your Good Shepherd family in praying that the following values will become deeply embedded in the life of our church, to the end that we live them out in very real and practical ways. Specifically, please pray:

Community

the powerful witness of loving one another as Jesus has loved us

  • that we hold all things in common to the extent that there is no need among us
  • that every member commits to a Life Group
  • that God adds to our number, even daily, those who are being saved

Discipleship

the life-long process of becoming like Christ

  • that every member identifies one or two others with whom to meet weekly for encouragement, accountability, and prayer
  • that every parent embraces the privilege of training up his/her child in the fear and admonition of the Lord
  • that every student participating in the course “Counting the Costs” will say yes to a life of following Jesus Christ

Missions

the costly commitment of sharing the privileges of the kingdom with others

  • that God continues to break our hearts over the things that break his heart and that, as a result, the things that are true in heaven become true on earth through us
  • that every member partners with Jonathan Allen and Pastor Kyle on the upcoming Kairos weekend (March 18-21) by baking cookies and signing up for the prayer vigil
  • that every household discerns how best to participate in our church-wide Vacation with a Purpose, either as a “radical goer” or as a “radical sender”

Prayer

the disciplined pursuit of communing with God through unceasing conversation

  • that prayer becomes our way of life, that we learn to hear God’s voice with confidence
  • that every member commits to developing his/her prayer life by choosing and persevering through one prayer resource as a Lenten discipline
  • that God continues to raise up trained intercessors -- those willing and equipped to pray effectively for others -- within our community

Worship

the corporate experience of encountering the Lord in spirit and truth

  • that God is glorified and that our church is edified every time we gather for worship
  • that Pastor Kyle, as well as Eric Speece and Loys Johnson on their appointed days, preach with boldness and deep conviction under the power of the Holy Spirit
  • that the YMCA parking lot is filled, overflowing with cars, on Sundays @ 10
